While I was attending Portland State University, I owned a 19 ft. Lightning that I named "Irish Rose". In 1975, I was a member of the Vancouver Lake Sailing Club, a family oriented sailing club with an emphasis on sailboat racing. I sailed Vancouver Lake, Washington, Willamette River at Portland, Oregon and Yaquina Bay and the Pacific Ocean at Newport, Oregon. I raced at Vancouver Lake, Fern Ridge Lake near Eugene and Klamath Lake. After I sold the Lightning (crew problems), I purchased a 14 ft. Lido that I named "Tranquillity". I sailed with family and friends in the Willamette River at Portland. There are approximately 85 to 95 members now who own a variety of small sailboats including Lightnings, Finns, 505's, Lasers, Hobie Cats, 470's, and many others. All types of small sailboats are welcome at VLSC.
