Limestone is the deposited shells on an ancient sea bed. When aeons later, this sedimentary layer is brought to the earth's surface it is called limestone pavement. (
visit link) Once exposed to mildly acidic rain, softer layers and lines are dissolved to form channels, called clints and grikes. (
