According to the hotels website; "The two ironwork lions placed at the Hotel entrance have fascinated children throughout generations. The Jacquemart sculptures were created originally to adorn Baroness Geslin’s “School for Girls”, located at former Rua do Príncipe, currently Rua Silveira Martins.
They were 4 majestic lions, however, when the school was demolished, only those two were left which are now at the Novo Mundo Hotel."
