Construction of the Old Fayette County Courthouse was completed in 1898. It is the fourth courthouse to be built on this site. In 2001, a new County Courthouse was completed and offices were moved into the new facility. Shortly thereafter the Old Fayette County Courthouse was turned into the Lexington History Museum. The Lexington History Museum is an award-winning museum operated by a non-profit organization. It is the only museum in the State of Kentucky that offers free admission.
