The boundary stone showing WD27, refers to the war department and is one of 46 similar stones used to mark out the Willsworthy firing range. They date from when the army purchased its first tract of land, virtually following the line of the old Willsworthy Manor in about 1900. This bound stone is not within any range but very close to Merrivale, access would be difficult if Merrivale were firing.
