Occupied a building over a hundred years old as the date stone above the door reads. Summitreks started trading in 1987, starting with a shop in Coniston. Was one of three outdoor shops in Hawkshead.
Since the demise of the Tourist Information Centre, a self service Visitor Information Point was located in Summitreks. Closed 31 March 2014

Before 1902, a barn stood here, which escaped the widespread fire on 6 February 1846 that damaged many buildings in the village. The barn had a hayloft above, with outside stone steps, at the bottom of the steps was a well and a pump, now gone. In 1902 it was torn down and replaced with the building we see today. Upstairs was the games room (snooker) and library for the Institute next door. Downstairs was used by Mrs McGarr for a sweet shop and tobacconist's. Over the years downstairs has had many uses; Home Guard Station, Coal merchants, garage, printer's shop, butcher's and lately a woollen shop.
