Loup City's attractive welcome sign is located along Highway 92. I'm not sure if other Nebraska towns dispute its claim to be the Polish Capital of the state but Loup City does have an annual celebration of its heritage. Loup city is the county seat of Sherman county and derives its name from its location in the valley of the Middle Loup River. The area was originally occupied by the Skidi or Wolf tribe of the Pawnee Indians and the name "Loup" is a French translation of this.
