This swing brigde at the tow-path in Princeton was used while the D&R Canal system was operational. It is fixed now, and the Princeton Branch of NJ Transit passes over it.

The canal is excellent for strolling in this crowed part of NJ. Very level, since it was the path to tow freight boats along the canal with mules. There is some information on the history posted along the canal, and parking is here: N40 19.915 W74 39.184. You can walk for miles without any change in elevation. I go there for running frequently.
There is a website about the park with more info on how it was used in the 19th century: (
