Enjoy a scenic float trip by canoe next to rising bluffs and flat farmland. An easy trip for the novice that is about 11 river miles long. It ends at a dam that will need to be portaged around. Use the bank on your left. Your pick up point is located below the dam on your right bank west of the town of Maquoketa, so you will have to reenter the water to cross over. Check it out before puting your canoe in to start the trip. There are two locations between the starting point and the dam where other river accesses are located for early egress if the trip proves to be to much for the unadventurous.
Parking/put-in/launching information:
The starting point is flat and grassy. There are no restrooms or water available.

Paddling conditions to be expected:
Flatwater with slow current on a small river. Watch for shallow submerged sandbars that will hang you up.

Difficulty of the trip:
ideal for the novice until the end. Portage and river crossing at the dam may produce a challenge.

Length of trip: 11 river miles

Portages:
Portage around the dam is a steep but walkable grassy slope. To exit before the dam, only go to N42 04.873 W90 45.118. No restroom or water is available here.

Permits required:
None

Type of trip:
Shuttle vehicle will be required.

Take-out Coordinates: N 42° 04.205 W 090° 41.750
