"This building dates from 1871, but there have been Methodist Christians in Shetland for almost 200 years.
The building was named in memory of Dr Adam Clarke who, as President of the Wesleyan Methodist Conference, encouraged the early Methodist mission to Shetland.
Dr Clarke responded to letters from John Nicolson who had returned to Shetland around 1820, after serving in the army. Nicolson began to establish Methodist congregations in the westside of Shetland
Almost 200 years later, there are Methodist Churches across Shetland - from Haroldswick on the north isle of Unst …
The minister’s house next door is also used for church meetings."
