The Basilica of San Bernardino is a religious building located in L'Aquila, Italy. The church was built, with the adjacent cloister, between 1454 and 1472 in honor of St Bernardino of Siena. The facade, built in the following century by Cola dell'Amatrice with Michelangelo influences, is considered the highest expression of Renaissance architecture in Abruzzo.
The lunette above the central portal bears the high relief, probably from the school of Silvestro dell'Aquila, depicting the Virgin and Child between Saint Francis of Assisi on the right and Saint Bernardino of Siena presenting the devotee Girolamo da Norcia on the left. It is surrounded by a semicircle of 7 reliefs of angels. A floral frieze also crowns the whole.
