"Founded on March 8, 1996 as a department of the Dutch Association of Model Builders. The association wants to be a group of friends of people who are interested in building both stationary model steam engines and locomotives. As far as locomotives are concerned, not only steam, but also other powered locomotives have been built in recent years.
Our track was built on the Amarant site at Bredaseweg 570 in Tilburg. This track differs from other model railways in the Netherlands, because it can be driven on a ground track with 3 gauges. (3.5 inches, 5 inches and 7.25 inches) The total length of this track is approximately 360 meters, and has a passing track (now grown into two separate rounds) and five stabling tracks with turntable and lifting table. In addition to the ground track, SMMB also has a small elevated track for gauge 3 and 5 inches with a length of 120 meters. A track 1 table was added around 2022. This consists of two rounds and is assembled as modules on the riding day.
In addition to our club evenings, the club track is raced 7 times a year according to a set agenda. In addition, each member is allowed to use the track freely on other days. Due to the small scale of our association, we do not have too many rules. Course regulations have been written for this. The most important thing is of course safety on the track. In addition to the presence of our club members, the residents of Amarant are also present and are happy to take a seat for a ride on our trains. This concerns people with an intellectual disability and this must be taken into account."
