Bucharest coat of arms at the entrance to King Mihai I Park. The coat of arms is large, about 50 cm and made of bronze. It is placed on a piece of wall.
The coat of arms with this appearance is from 1994, when Bucharest's previous coat of arms received a few changes.
At the top of the coat of arms is a crown. When you look closer, the crown consists of a stone wall with seven towers.
In the large shield there is an eagle with spread wings. In the middle of the eagle there is a smaller shield with Saint Dumitru who is the city's patron.
Saint Dumitru carries a spear and a cross. The large eagle carries a cross, a sword and a scepter.
At the bottom of the shield is a sash with the motto "PATRIA SI DREPTUL MEU ("My Country and My Right").
King Mihai I Park is a large park in northern Bucharest. The park is laid out on the shores of Lake Herastrau and the total area is 187 ha.
The area where the park is now located was formerly a very swampy area which was drained around 1930. The designs for the park were made by the architects Ernest Pinard and Friedrich Rebhuhn and the park was completed in 1936. In 1951 the park was expanded.
At the entrance to the park, there was a statue of Stalin from 1951, but it was torn down in 1962. However, there are many other memorials and sculptures in the park, some of which are of famous people, such as William Shakespeare. At the entrance there is also a small white wall on which the Bucharest coat of arms is placed.
Otherwise, there are many different trees, bushes and flowers surrounded by many paths and many benches. There is also space for a playground for the little ones.
