Saratoga Race Course is a 350 acre facility located in the upstate NY town of Saratoga Springs. The track opened in 1863 and hosts the Travers Stakes Grade 1 horse race, the oldest thoroughbred horse race held in the USA.

Saratoga is a famous race track located in Saratoga Springs New York. The track opened in 1863, and since 1864 has been hosting the Grade 1 Travers Stakes Race. The Travers is the oldest major thoroughbred horse race in the United States. Saratoga Race Course has been nicknamed "The Spa". A feature of the course and its logo is the red and white striped pavilion.

The racing season starts in the end of July and runs through Labor Day weekend in September. The course itself features a 1 1/8 mile dirt main track, a 1 mile turf course, and a 7/8 mile steeplechase/inner turf course. Attendance is 50,000+ with a seating capacity of 18,000.

A lake in the infield of the track contains a canoe that is painted annually in the colors of the winning stable for that year's Travers Stakes winner. In addition, visitors to the track can sample some of the famed spa water near the paddock area.

Saratoga is one of the oldest most historic race courses in the United States, and as such deserves a visit from all those enthusiastic or just learning about horse racing.

Additional Information:
Currently NYRA (New York Racing Association) handles all betting at the big 3 NY race tracks. Saratoga features a large number of betting terminals, windows, and simulcast betting is available. Trackside parking and general parking is available, although it can fill up for the big races (Travers etc...). Seats can be purchased for all days of open racing at the track. The fee varies by date. Check the website for the latest schedule.
