Shipley Bridge is an ancient bridge in an area of South Dartmoor which was once rich in industry (Peat, Naptha and China Clay). There is plenty of surviving industrial Archaeology to see within a few yards of the bridge and plenty of parking. There is a splendid tarmac walk from Shipley Bridge following the River Avon to Avon Dam Reservoir about a mile and a half away, ideal for children with bikes or persons. If you take this walk keep your eyes open for the Bulteel or Hunter's stone on the left and the remains of Brent Moor House.
