"The reconstruction of the building on the site of the old town hall was decided by deliberation of December 3, 1730. The plans of the architect Cadas were adopted in 1741. The building, including the tower that dominates it, was completed and inaugurated on August 15, 1746.

In 1238, the consuls of Béziers acquired the Ermengaud hotel here, a building with a tower, in order to build a "communal house".

From the 14th to the 16th century, several acquisitions allowed the house to be enlarged and rooms to be created, in particular for the compoix (land registry). The forecourt was paved and a tower with a clock and a bell was built.

In 1728, it was decided to completely renovate all the buildings to bring them up to date. Rollin, architect of the Province, proposed a grandiose project comprising two classical-style buildings, overlooking the square and enclosing a new belfry.

Only the belfry would be built in the mid-18th century. Today, it serves as a majestic entrance to the town hall, which, as a result, spreads out behind it. Later, residential buildings were built on the side plots, without concern for alignment or architectural coherence...

A few years later, the building included courts of peace on the ground floor, as well as a large concert hall on the first floor. A new extension in the mid-19th century allowed the installation of a library, a museum, the fire brigade, and a municipal school.

Today, this building only houses municipal services and the concert hall has become the Municipal Council room."
