This is a welcome Rest Stop when travelling State Highway 1.
There is parking (and a fuelling stop nearby) for trucks; parking for long vehicles, such as motorhomes and towed caravans, and over forty other car parks. Plus there's three reserved for charging electric vehicles.
This is also a Bus Hub for bus services between Wellington going North; also New Plymouth to Palmerston North, and across to the Hawkes Bay.
The facilities include a number of toilets, plus a disabled access toilet with free shower and baby changing facilities. The facilities were available 24/7 but in 2023 vandals destroyed the shower and a couple of the porcelain toilets so after reinstatement the hours are limited to 6AM to 9PM.
There are other vandal-proof toilets available 24/7 a short well-lit 150m walk away near the BP Service Station.
The Community Centre contains an attended desk for conducting council related business, the 'Town Hall' capable of seating 250, three meeting rooms to accommodate between 15 and 50 quests, the library and tourist information including bus ticket sales.
