There are three museums here: Museu do Instituto Butantan - MIB (Butantan Museum Institute) and Museu Histórico (Historic Museum), and Museu de Microbiologia (Microbiology museum. There are snakes pits, but the most intersting snakes are in the museum. There, they're hooded cobras from Africa and India, boa constrictors and South American anacondas. The institute also offers a multimedia station where the public can research on Brazilian serpents. Besides serums against stings of snakes, spiders and scorpions, the institute manufactures vaccines against tetanus, whooping cough, diphtheria, rabies, and tuberculosis and hepatitis. The institute has a hospital, Hospital Vital Brasil, open night and day, where free treatment is offered to anyone who has been stung by poisonous animals. The institute also has a monkey area, where monkeys are used to find out the rhesus of the blood.
