1. Sint Maarten Cruise Port: N 18° 00.799 W 063° 02.696
Sint Maarten has a new terminal that can accommodate 7 cruise ships at a time. When we visited, three cruise ships were in port, including the Club Med 2, a five-masted, staysail schooner. Our first photo was taken from the boardwalk in downtown Philipsburg.
2. The Boardwalk: N 18° 01.378 W 063° 02.723
The Philipsburg Boardwalk is one of the biggest attractions in the city. With a width of almost 50 feet (15 meters) and covering almost the entire length of the city's waterfront, the promenade serves as a "back porch" for hotels and restaurants on the south side of Front Street. (

3. Philipsburg Courthouse: N 18° 01.420 W 063° 02.747
Philipsburg's historic courthouse is one of the oldest buildings on the island. The wooden building was built in 1793, and has been renovated several times over the years. In the past it has been used as a jail, a fire station and a post office. Today it is used solely as a court of law. The bell tower houses a 25 bell carillon. The Pineapple on the building's roof is an international symbol of welcome. (

4. Methodist Church: N 18° 01.460 W 063° 02.853
The Philipsburg Methodist Church is a wooden building built in 1851 and rebuilt in 1978. It was the first Methodist church on the island. The small bell tower is in the center of the roof near the front of the church and is surmounted by a cross. The Methodist church was spared from the devastating Hurricane Irma of September 2017.
5. Oranje School: N 18° 01.473 W 063° 02.906
The Oranje School, the oldest in St. Maarten, is located on Front Street in downtown Philipsburg. It celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2001.
