Staines-upon-Thames, commonly known simply as Staines, is a town on the River Thames in the Borough of Spelthorne in Surrey, England. It is located approximately 3 miles (5 km) from London Heathrow Airport. I visited Staines on a stopover at Heathrow between Johannesburg and Montréal.

1. Staines Bridge: N 51° 26.011 W 0° 30.991
Staines Bridge is a road bridge linking Staines-upon-Thames in the Spelthorne Borough and Egham in the Runnymede Borough. It is on the modern A308 road and runs in a south-west to north-east direction across the River Thames in Surrey. The fifth and present bridge with three arches in white granite was designed by George Rennie. Construction started in 1827, and it was opened in 1832. The bridge is Grade II listed. (visit link)

2. River Thames: N 51° 26.001 W 0° 31.004
The River Thames, also known as the River Isis, is a river that flows through southern England, including London. At 346 kilometres (215 miles), it is the longest river entirely within England and the second longest in the United Kingdom, after the River Severn. Our second photo shows the River Thames from Staines Bridge. (visit link)

3. Jimmy Spices: N 51° 26.007 W 0° 30.973
At Jimmy Spices World Buffet and Bar, guests can experience a wide variety of cuisine from the Far East, Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, Europe and the Americas, all for one price. Each cuisine has its own dedicated chef who loves to dazzle diners with vibrant and flamboyant cuisine. The restaurant is located just off the entrance to Staines Bridge.

4. Staines Old Town Hall: N 51° 25.989 W 0° 30.851
Staines Town Hall is a municipal building in the Market Square which briefly served as the headquarters of Spelthorne Borough Council. It is a Grade II listed building. Following approval of a planning application in January 2018, the building was converted into thirteen residential apartments. (visit link)

5. Memorial Gardens Dancing Fountains: N 51° 25.959 W 0° 30.838
The Dancing Fountains were erected in 2006 in the Staines Memorial Gardens. The centrepiece is a 1980 sculpture by British artist David Wynne, entitled 'Fountain of the Five Swimmers'. It depicts five female and male figures floating gracefully around each other and surrounded by dancing fountains. (visit link)
