The Faroese 100 kroner bank note is part of a series with Faroese nature and animals.
The banknote has on one side a watercolor of Klaksvík, one of the Faroe Islands' most important fishing ports. On the other side there is a cod tail.
In the same series there are Kr 50, 200, 500 and 1000. All the watercolors are made by the Faroese artist Zacharias Heinesen.
Faroese kroner is not an independent currency, but ordinary Danish banknotes with Faroese motifs and it is Danmarks Nationalbank that issues them.
In the Faroe Islands, Danish banknotes are considered foreign currency, just like Faroese banknotes in Denmark. You can therefore not pay with Faroese banknotes in Denmark, nor Danish banknotes in the Faroe Islands.
Klaksvik on the island of Borðoy is the second largest town in the Faroe Islands. It is located in a valley surrounded by the mountains Myrkjanoyrarfjall (689 meters) and Háfjall (647 meters), Hálgafelli (503 meters) and Klakkur (414 meters). However, the striking mountain in the middle of the bay is Kunoyarfjall (703 meters), which is located on the island of Kunoy. The mountain peaks are often covered by clouds.
