Son nom vient du torrent Le Glandon qui prend sa source au col.

At an altitude of 1924 m, the Col du Glandon is a pass in Savoie, in the town of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards, on the D927. On one side, the center of Saint-Colomban-des-Villards and on the other the road linking the Col de la Croix de Fer and Vaujany.
Its name comes from the Le Glandon torrent which has its source at the pass.
