"The Brussels Stock Exchange (BSE) was founded in Brussels (Belgium) by decree of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1801. On 22 September 2000, the Brussels Stock Exchange merged with the Paris Stock Exchange and the Amsterdam Stock Exchange to form Euronext, the first pan-European stock exchange for equities and derivatives. It then became Euronext Brussels. The most well-known index of the Brussels Stock Exchange is the BEL20....
The stock exchange building was built on Boulevard d'Anspach between 1868 and 1873 according to the plans of the architect León-Pierre Suys. The construction of the stock exchange included a programme to clean up and beautify the city and the creation of boulevards in the centre of Brussels. In full economic expansion, this building responds to the need to have a place to carry out commercial transactions. The building occupies the site of the former butter market. The building combines elements of the classical and Second Empire styles, with ornaments and sculptures by artists such as Auguste Rodin."
