Klocktornet Kampanilen is one of Europe's largest concert carillons with a total of 48 bells in the 20 meter high tower.

It was inaugurated in 1971. Originally, it was supposed to be the tallest building in Malmö city, but it was not allowed. It was not allowed to compete in height with the church spire of Sankt Petri church, and therefore it was not as high as originally planned.

The carillon was not in operation for very long. There were complaints from staff from the adjacent building which is the town hall. They could not work in the sound of the bells.
The carillon therefore stood unused for many years. It was not until 2021 that it was renovated and taken back into use. However, it is only once a week, on Saturday afternoon, that you can hear the carillon.

On the tower there is a sign with a poem.
Poem:

(Listen to the bells! They sing about how our old city remains the forever young and wakes up happy to work. Here, by the noise of the Öresund, our fathers built a defense in harsh weather, a home on the foundations of Skåne. Civic benefits and honor and peace after hard work are their message to you, who now live in Malmö.
Anders Österling POET)
