"Cuenca has a new tourism product today: the network of hiking itineraries “Flor de Trails” presented this morning by the Councilor for Tourism, Nieves Mohorte, and the manager of the “itinerary” company, Adolfo Bállega.
The “Flower of Trails” project has consisted of uniting the urban and peri-urban trails of the city of Cuenca to create a network of points of historical and landscape interest around the Historic Center, paying special attention to their signage so that be simple, effective and of quality. It is also a signage approved by the Mountain Sports Federation of Castilla-La Mancha.
In total, three itineraries are offered around the city of Cuenca, all of them to be done on foot and of medium difficulty, making them accessible to anyone.
Mohorte has highlighted the importance of the city of Cuenca, which bases a good part of its economic activity on tourism, betting on the creation of new products that attract visitors and encourage them to extend their stay.
The Councilor for Tourism recalled that, in addition to the rich heritage and culture, the natural environment is one of the main attractions of Cuenca as a tourist destination and pointed out that more and more visitors are interested in taking nature tours. like those offered by “Flor de Senderos”, in addition to practicing sports in the natural environment.
For his part, the manager of the “Itineraria” company explained that, thanks to this project, part of the well-known GR66 trail that crosses the province of Cuenca passing through the capital has been recovered. Specifically, 5 kilometers have been marked. Through this path, called “of the viewpoints”, it connects the Mirador del Rey, a new viewpoint that has been created halfway up the slope of Cerro de San Cristóbal, with the viewpoints of Rincón Seco and the Sagrado Corazón. In this way, unbeatable views of Cuenca are offered.
On the other hand, the SL10 trail has been signposted that borders the historic city, visiting the gorges of the Júcar and Huécar rivers, going up to the Castle and descending through Las Angustias. It is a circular route lasting about two hours, which alternates between urban areas and traditional paths.
Finally, the SL11 is a path that runs through Recreo Peral, the road to San Julián, Mirador de Cuenca, Hermitage of San Julián el Tranquilo, Las Grajas dam, San Juan de la Rivera area and the hermitage of Las Angustias.
“Flower of trails” has involved an investment of 42,000 euros and has been financed by FOMIT funds that were granted to the Cuenca City Council in 2005 and that had not yet been fully executed."
