"Half a minute, just 30 seconds, is the time it takes to fly over Cuenca . For some, a short time, for others an eternity that is experienced at more than 100 meters high and at a speed of up to 75 km per hour while traveling the 445 meters that make Las Hoces Cuenca the longest urban zip line in Spain and from Europe .

After four years and 400,000 euros of investment , it is finally a reality. The Las Hoces Cuenca Zip Line adds another attraction to a city that in 2023 holds the title of Spanish Gastronomic Capital and that combines its most classic attractions (Cathedral, Plaza Mayor, Casas Colgadas, San Pablo Bridge, Alfonso VI Street, Hoces del Huécar and Júcar or the historic skyscraper houses) with modern contemporary art spaces such as the Museum of Abstract Art, the Roberto Polo Collection or the Espacio Torner.

The longest urban zipline in Europe
Located between rock walls that plunge into deep gorges and with houses that seem to be suspended in the air, the city of Cuenca deserves to be seen from the air .

Starting January 27 you can enjoy the zip line.
For this, there are different viewpoints in the city, such as the iron walkway of the San Pablo bridge , that of the Mangana tower or that of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, on Cerro del Socrro.

Although perhaps the best panoramic views are obtained from the Castle neighborhood . Located on an old Arab fortress from the 9th century, only the access gate (the Bezudo arch), the bridge and part of the belt of walls that defended it remain of the castle.

What remains is the reason why a defensive construction was built here: the control of both the gorges of the rivers that water the city and the Serranía de Cuenca and the extensive valley that, from here, the Júcar draws. .

Precisely here, originating next to the castle parking lot , the experience of the new Cuenca zip line begins (which, by the way, snatches from Toledo the title of the longest zip line in Spain, surpassing it with its length of 445 meters compared to 130 meters from that of the Castilian-La Mancha capital by more than 300 meters).

The closest thing to flying over Cuenca
On its route, the zip line crosses the Hoz del Huécar and arrives next to the Cueva de la Zarza , next to the old Convent of San Pablo, today the National Tourist Parador, offering spectacular views of the Old Town and the urban center in its path .

Saving a difference in height of 67 meters , the highest point places us at 120 meters above ground , with a slope of 17%.

Although initially it was projected with a maximum speed of 90 km/h, finally and for safety reasons it has been reduced to between 70 and 75 km/h depending on the weight of the person ( installed parachutes slow the speed to offer users more 'travel' time).

How much does the Cuenca zip line cost?
After an inauguration with authorities, it will be from next Friday, January 27, when the bravest will begin to slide over the city.

The price of the jump is 25 euros (with reduced rates for groups of more than 10 people) and it is open from Monday to Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. , although the schedule will be adapted as the days get longer and with more hours of light.

Even, the company explains to Tendenciashoy , the possibility of doing night jumps in summer is being studied “taking advantage of the beautiful lighting of the Hoz de Cuenca and the Old Town, both declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.”

In order to enjoy the experience, which is done wearing a harness and helmet, a minimum weight of 40 kilos and a maximum of 120 kilos is required . In addition, those responsible for it explain, it is adapted to people with disabilities."
