The 27 metre high statue of Christ, known as Christo Rei is located on a headland not far from the capital city Timor-Leste, Dili.
The statue which depicts Christ standing on a globe was a gift from Indonesia to Timor-Leste.
Located on the pathway up to the statue are the Stations of the Cross. Each station is built into a well maintained vestibule to allow reflection and contemplation. The name of each station is in Portuguese and English
Timor-Leste is a predominately Roman Catholic country which reflects their Portuguese origins. Mixed with this is spiritualism.
As the statue is a dominant feature of the Dili shoreline, and it reflects something of the Indonesian occupation of the country, the path is a regular path for tourists and pilgrims alike.
