Chapel centrally located in Bellu Cemetery (Serban Voda Cemetery). It is the largest and most famous cemetery in Bucharest.

From the cemetery entrance, there is a wide road of about 100 meters to the large white chapel. The chapel is surrounded by closely spaced graves on all sides.
It is built in presumably sandstone and painted white. The chapel has an irregular shape with a large entrance door and on the roof a dome with many small windows. The roof is made of copper and at the top of the dome there is a cross.
The chapel was designed by the architect Alexandru Orascu and was completed in 1855.

The cemetery is 28 hectares and opened in 1858 on land donated by Baron Barbu Bellu. It is a very visited cultural attraction in Bucharest.

Many famous people are buried in the cemetery. There is a myriad of funery art, mausoleums, crosses and graves located very close to each other. However, separated by in sections of dirt roads. In the middle of the cemetery there is a large cemetery chapel.

Just as famous people are buried, there are also many nobles. In fact, it became so fashionable to be buried in the Bellu cemetery that several noble families exhumed their family members from other cemeteries, to rebury them in the Bellu cemetery.

You also notice that most of the graves are grouped by profession, artists in one part, writers in another and so on.

The cemetery is open every day from 8:30 AM to 8 PM.
