"Maritime houses: 17th to 18th century
Stone Crosses (calvaries): 18th to 19th century
Raised granaries: 18th century
Combarro was declared a historic, artistic and picturesque site on the 30th of November, 1972. The actual meaning of Combarro could be a seaside of raised granaries. The truth is that the sea has its own street that runs along the coast of the municipality of Poio. Between the street that demarcates the coast with its line of raised granaries and the Rúa de San Roque there is an evident spatial arrangement, the final result of which could almost be considered a symbol of the popular Galician identity.
Small maritime houses with delicate masonry work were built on the granite outcrop. The Solaina houses with their rows of Baroque-style stone balconies are very pleasing to the eye, and these seem to be have been inspired by the architecture of the traditional Pazo country houses. The interior of these houses were very modest with earthen floors and the divisions between the rooms are hardly noticeable.
Facing out to the sea, a space is reserved for the works that the granaries preside over. There are around thirty in total, the largest number in Galicia, and in fact, their coastal location makes them even more unique. The granaries were built from stone, although they are known locally as palleiras, a name which dates back to the time when the granaries used to be covered with hay or other similar materials. Their storage function incorporates the necessary symbiosis between the agricultural and maritime lives that are fostered by this estuary. Lastly, the crosses: the village's crossroads would not be complete without these popular religious elements. Several of them represent victory over evil and some of them also have an altar table that serves an ornamental function for the Corpus procession."
