"It was the abbey church of Malmedy. The Cathedral was built using stones from the Malmed region, arkose stones. It is a must-see of the city's architectural heritage, with its renaissance style and its Latin cross shape. Its construction dates from between 1776 and 1784. Inside, its altar of the Blessed Virgin, in marble, is still original, as well as its four confessionals and its pulpit of truth. The stained glass windows are not original because they were destroyed during the bombings of December 1944. The carillon was built in 1786 and is made up of 35 authentic bells, made by a Malmedian "Martin Legros".

It was only in 1921 that it obtained the title of Cathedral, during the diocese of Eupen-Malmedy (1919-1925). The cathedral also holds the reliquary of Saint-Quirin. Its treasures are found in the Malmundarium."
