A thatched maize barn can be seen in The Village Museum in Bucharest. The barn is about 2 x 5 m with 1 entrance. The walls of the rectangular building consist of braided branches and the entire building is placed on 4 thick wooden posts.
The building, especially the wooden posts, looks somewhat unstable, and needs renovation soon.
The maize barn is an original structure that was moved to the Village Museum in 1949 from an area in Romania called Castranova, Dolj. The maize barn has been moved together with other buildings from the area and dates at the half of the 19th century.
The Village Museum was founded in 1936. It is an area of over 15 hectares and displays traditional houses, mills, farmhouses, churches, water mills and other buildings from all over Romania.
All buildings have been removed from their original area and rebuilt in the museum area. In the museum, the buildings are recreated in small environments, so that you can clearly see the difference between the types of buildings in the various regions of Romania.
