"El Museo de la Tortura es un museo privado ubicado en Santillana del Mar, Cantabria, que contiene más de medio centenar de instrumentos de tortura y pena capital originales de Europa desde los siglos XV hasta el XIX. Se trata de una tipología de museo histórico muy extendido en España debido a la longeva presencia de la Inquisición.

Se le considera uno de los museos más raros en España, también uno de los sitios turísticos del municipio cántabro.

Los objetos expuestos en el museo fueron donados por una colección privada y pertenecen a varias etapas de la historia, desde la Edad Media hasta la época industrial.

El edificio, que cuenta con varias plantas, se divide en varias secciones:

Castigo ejemplarizante y humillación pública.
Castigo físico y tortura de reos.
Instrumentos de ejecución.
Aparatos creados para torturar específicamente a mujeres.
Cada pieza es expuesta con ilustraciones históricas y con su correspondiente leyenda, que resume cómo se usaba en aquellos tiempos, a qué tipo de delito era aplicado este castigo, y en qué época y lugar se empleaba.

En total, el museo reúne más de un centenar de instrumentos de tortura entre piezas originales y reconstrucciones actuales."

"The Torture Museum is a private museum located in Santillana del Mar, Cantabria, which contains more than fifty original instruments of torture and capital punishment from Europe from the 15th to the 19th centuries. It is a type of historical museum very widespread in Spain due to the long presence of the Inquisition.

It is considered one of the rarest museums in Spain, also one of the tourist sites in the Cantabrian municipality.

The objects exhibited in the museum were donated by a private collection and belong to various stages of history, from the Middle Ages to the industrial era.

The building, which has several floors, is divided into several sections:

Exemplary punishment and public humiliation.
Physical punishment and torture of prisoners.
Instruments of execution.
Devices created to specifically torture women.
Each piece is displayed with historical illustrations and its corresponding legend, which summarizes how it was used in those times, to what type of crime this punishment was applied, and in what time and place it was used.

In total, the museum brings together more than a hundred torture instruments, including original pieces and current reconstructions."
