The large square-based building has a car park beneath it, with what appears to be four floors, and a tall atrium.

"The Church of the Holy Family was the first Catholic Church in the eastern region of Singapore. It started out in a timber hut built by the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Brothers) and moved to a small chapel in 1923, on a plot of land from a Eurasian donor. Soon after, the chapel became too small to house the worshippers and plans were made to erect a new church building on the existing site.

"Completed in 1932, the new Church of the Holy Family became a vibrant focal point for the Eurasian and Peranakan communities in Katong. With the influx of these communities and the establishment of Catholic schools, the congregation grew exponentially in the period before the Japanese Occupation. The unique blend of two communities made for an eclectic mix of culture, food and fashion that is still unique to the area around what some still call the “Katong Church”."
