Salem-Lutheran Cemetery is on the southwest side of Carl Blackwell Lake, tucked between two arms of the lake. Access is by unimproved roads that might not be passable after a rain. According to a marker on site, this cemetery was established by German immigrants. The text is:
SALEM CEMTERY
The Oklahoma Land Run of 1889 brought to this spot a number of German Lutheran immigrants from Ukraine, Russia. These families began the history of what is now Salem Evangelical Ltueran Church at Duck and Elm in Stillwater.
These immigrants purchased a quarter section of land in 1893. All but about five acres of this land was sold, and the proceeds used to buy supplies for a bona-fide church building. The congregation, known as Freideriskirche, was incorporated in 1892 and originally stood on the rise 150 ft to the west of this cemetery. Services were held in German and led by various members. Around 1909 the membership voted to move the congregation into Stillwater.
