As in many countries, the bat has almost no opportunities to find housing in the Netherlands. Every crack is closed so as not to lose energy due to drafts.
The government has recently also taken measures for people who want to insulate their cavity walls. An investigation must first be carried out to determine the presence of bats in the cavity walls.
All of this has led to more and more people putting up a bat box to help give the animals a home.
On the Internet you can find construction drawings for free.
Most of the bat boxes are plywood constructions.
Here at the locomotive shed of the Museum Buurt Spoorwegen two bat boxes were placed.
