This massive cylindrical piece of granite lies between Great Trowlesworthy Tor and Little Trowlesworthy Tor. This rock was intended as a base for a flagpole for the centre of Devonport and was cut back in the early 1800’s. There is various reasons why it was never removed, one is that it was simply too big. There is plenty of evidence of extensive granite cutting in this area.
