"La Iglesia de la Tercera Orden de Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo o Igreja do Carmo es un monumento religioso ubicado en Largo do Carmo, ciudad de Faro . Está clasificado como Bien de Interés Público.
La Iglesia del Carmen es uno de los monumentos históricos más importantes de la región del Algarve. Fue fundada en 1713 por el obispo D. António Pereira da Silva, dentro de la valla del siglo XVII. El padre Frei Manuel da Conceição fue el responsable del diseño de la iglesia inicial, donde tenía su sede la Tercera Orden de Nuestra Señora del Monte do Carmo. Tras el derribo de la fachada inicial y del cuerpo central, a partir de 1747 se construyó un nuevo edificio de mayores dimensiones, del que fue responsable el maestro albañil Diogo Tavares (autor del proyecto arquitectónico y dirección de construcción). Las obras continuaron en el tiempo, construyéndose el último piso en 1755. La torre oeste se terminó en 1878 y la del lado este a principios del siglo XX. XIX. La torre oeste tiene un carillón de 9 campanas, realizado por Gregório José da Silva, en 1876, a partir del bronce de las cuatro campanas iniciales.
La iglesia es de una sola nave, con cabecera y cuatro capillas laterales. " Se trata de un buen ejemplo de arquitectura barroca con una fachada simétrica al estilo de D. João V. La portada tiene tres cuerpos. El central, más amplio, tiene un vano de acceso flanqueado por dos columnas corintias, rematadas por fuegos y con retorcidos en el fuste. A cada lado, una hornacina bajo palio con las estatuas de San Elías y Santa Teresa ." En su interior destaca el revestimiento de azulejos, así como las tallas doradas, creadas por los mejores escultores de la región, con énfasis en los maestros Gaspar Martins, Manuel Martins y Miguel Nobre. También destaca " la ornamentación de la sacristía y de la casa de despacho, la Capela dos Ossos, adyacente a la iglesia (1816), así como la colección de imaginería de la Procesión Triunfal "."

The Church of Carmen is one of the most important historical monuments in the Algarve region. It was founded in 1713 by Bishop D. António Pereira da Silva, within the 17th century fence. Father Frei Manuel da Conceição was responsible for the design of the initial church, where the Third Order of Our Lady of Monte do Carmo had its headquarters. After the demolition of the initial façade and the central body, a new, larger building was built in 1747, for which the master bricklayer Diogo Tavares (author of the architectural project and construction management) was responsible. The works continued over time, with the top floor being built in 1755. The west tower was completed in 1878 and the one on the east side at the beginning of the 20th century. XIX. The west tower has a carillon with 9 bells, made by Gregório José da Silva, in 1876, from the bronze of the four initial bells.
The church has a single nave, with a chancel and four side chapels. "It is a good example of baroque architecture with a symmetrical façade in the style of D. João V. The façade has three sections. The central one, larger, has an access opening flanked by two Corinthian columns, topped by fires and with twisted in the shaft. On each side, a niche under a canopy with the statues of Saint Elias and Saint Teresa." Inside, the tile covering stands out, as well as the golden carvings, created by the best sculptors in the region, with emphasis on the masters Gaspar Martins, Manuel Martins and Miguel Nobre. Also noteworthy is "the ornamentation of the sacristy and the office house, the Capela dos Ossos, adjacent to the church (1816), as well as the collection of imagery of the Triumphal Procession."
