"Als Jakobsweg (auch Jakobus- oder Sternenweg) werden verschiedene Pilgerwege zum Grab des Apostels Jakobus des Älteren nach Santiago de Compostela in Spanien bezeichnet. Im Mittelalter gehörte Santiago de Compostela neben Rom und Jerusalem zu den drei Hauptzielen der christlichen Pilgerfahrt.

Aus ganz Europa strömten Menschen auf zahlreichen Pilgerwegen nach Galizien an das damalige Ende der Welt. Eine bedeutende Pilgerroute führte durch die Eifel von Andernach am Rhein in Richtung Trier an der Mosel über die ehemalige Römerstraße.

Die St.-Matthias-Bruderschaft Mayen hat seit 2008 den Eifel-Camino, zunächst im Landkreis Mayen-Koblenz, von Namedy über Andernach, Mayen und Monreal bis zum Heunenhof mit Pilgersteinen und Pilger-Informationsstelen aus Basaltlava markiert. Ergänzend findet man die europaweit gültige Kennzeichnung der gelben stilisierten Muschel auf blauem Grund.

Inzwischen ist der Weg auf rund 160 Kilometern über Kaisersesch, Bad Bertrich, Wittlich und Klausen durchgehend gekennzeichnet. In Klausen vereinigt sich der Eifel-Camino mit dem Mosel-Camino und führt über Klüsserath und Schweich nach Trier bis zum Grab des Apostels Matthias."

"The Way of St. James (also known as the Way of St. James or the Way of the Stars) is the name given to various pilgrimage routes to the tomb of the apostle James the Elder in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. In the Middle Ages, Santiago de Compostela was one of the three main destinations for Christian pilgrimages alongside Rome and Jerusalem.

People from all over Europe flocked to Galicia on numerous pilgrimage routes to what was then the end of the world. One important pilgrimage route led through the Eifel region from Andernach on the Rhine towards Trier on the Moselle along the former Roman road.

Since 2008, the St. Matthias Brotherhood of Mayen has marked the Eifel Camino, initially in the district of Mayen-Koblenz, from Namedy via Andernach, Mayen and Monreal to Heunenhof with pilgrim stones and pilgrim information steles made of basalt lava. In addition, the yellow stylized shell on a blue background is used throughout Europe.

The trail is now continuously marked for around 160 kilometers via Kaisersesch, Bad Bertrich, Wittlich and Klausen. In Klausen, the Eifel Camino joins the Moselle Camino and leads via Klüsserath and Schweich to Trier and the tomb of the apostle Matthias."
