The Wignacourt Water Tower was built by St. John Order as part of the method of bringing water to the city. The architect behind an aqueduct and several water towers, including this one, is Bontadino de Bontadini. The baroque water tower was completed in 1615.
Bontadini was the first architect to introduce the Baroque style to Malta.

The Wignacourt Water Tower consists of a 3m high cylindrical pedestal and is supported by pilasters. At the top of the tower is a sculptured fleur-de-lis,.
On one side of the water tower there is a drinking trough for horses, so there is water for both people and animals.

The tower was included on the Antiquities List of 1925 and was restored in 2015.
