Marfa Ridge is a newer forest area that originally arose as a project. Now a large nature area with access for everyone.

The project is about bringing forest and associated flora and fauna back to Malta. Malta was covered in forest 7000 years ago, but it was cleared to be replaced by agricultural land. Later, agriculture was replaced by an unusually large number of tourist areas with hotels and apartments. More than 20,000 trees have now been planted, and thus both the flora and fauna have had good growing conditions.

The entire area is 223 hectares. Throughout the area, there are hiking trails and several signs that tell about the flora and fauna.

The many wild flowers that are now in Marfa Ridge, among other things, attract many different butterflies, for example Swallowtail, Clouded Yellow and Painted Lady. In the area you can now also find Painted Frog, the only amphibian to be found in Malta.
An exciting place to visit as you can see how quickly nature changes.
