This Geological Devilish Location is in Brigus, Newfoundland on Beaver Pond Road. The location is called the Devil's Footprints, where two circular imprints sit on a large boulder that's spilt in two. The geological explanation could be that there were different types of rock in the boulder when formed which later fell out cleanly. Or they were formed by erosion, small rocks swirling around inside when the water reached this area.

A nearby plaque tells the legendary explanation.

PLAQUE TEXT:
"The Devil's Footprints

According to local tradition, these imprints in the rock were made by the devil's hot footprint when he hopped on the rock on his way into Lakeview House. Another folklore story is to show God how powerful he was, the devil scorched his mark here. To prove his superiority, God sent a lightning bolt thundering down on the hill above which split the rock in two pieces.

Children (and some adults who will confess) were afraid to walk past the rock at night. When they came to this area on Beaver Pond Road, they would run as fast as their legs could carry them.

The Baccalieu Players theatre troupe produced 'Steps Through Time' from 1996 until 2009 and a scene about the devil's footprints in this rock was included.

Listen to more memories of the devil's footprints in the Walk Brigus app."

"The legend live on in the naming of Thunderbolt Hill, shown above Beaver Pond. Thunderbolt Lane leads to the former Benville Tea Room, built in 1929, it helps date this map."

"In the walking theatre show, 'Steps Through Time', the devil would suddenly appear, in a puff of smoke, from behind this rock to the delight of the audiences.
