This used to be the Cairo's citadel jail and it "hosted" some notable "guests" along the centuries.

The jail existent in the citadel of Cairo, known as Saladin Citadel, was created in 1874 by command of Khedive Ismail, after he moved is government seat from the Citadel to Abdeen Palace. However, there were other jails in the citadel before the one we can visit today.

The jail is basically a 50 m long corridor, outdoors, with cells in two sectors, spread in two wings, east and west.

There were a couple of torture rooms being the most notorious the so called "ring" room, created in 1932 by king Fouad with French expertize and inspired in a cell existent in the Bastille.

The space is now a public exhibit as part of the attractions available in the Citadel.

Available from 8 to 5 everyday.

A general ticket to visit everything in the Citadel costing 450 Egyptian Pounds is required.
