[FIN] Turussa, Hepokullan ja Impivaaran asuinalueiden rajalla on Koivulan entisen maatilan puutarhassa omenapuussa oleva lepakoiden pesäpönttö. Alueella on maastossa korkeaa irtokivien muodostamaa onkaloseinämää. Hyvin potentiaalinen paikka lepakoiden asumiseen. Näistä kivikasoista on joskus löydetty suuri raha-aarre.

Suomessa on tavattu 13 eri lepakkolajia. Niistä Turun seudulla on tavattu yhdeksää erilaista. Mukaanlukien harvinainen ja erittäin uhanalainen ripsisiippa, jota ei Suomessa tavata säännöllisesti juuri muualla kuin Turussa. Yleisin alueella tavattu lepakkolaji on Pohjanlepakko. Tästä Wikipedia kirjoittaa seuraavanlaisesti:
"Pohjanlepakko (Eptesicus nilssonii), aiemmin pohjan yölepakko, on maailman pohjoisin lepakkolaji, jota tavataan napapiirin pohjoispuolellakin. Pohjanlepakko on Suomen yleisin lepakkolaji." Wikipedia: (visit link)

Tämän pöntön valmistaja on ruotsalainen Jula. Sen mitat ovat valmistajan mukaan L19xK40xS15 cm. Siinä on maalattuna lepakon kuva. Jula: (visit link)

Lepakoista on hyvin paljon apua esimerkiksi hyttysten torjunnassa. Niitä on kesäisin runsaasti tälläkin alueella, koska useampikin oja kulkee lähettyvillä ja tiheitä metsiä on aivan vieressä.

[EN] In Turku, on the border between the residential areas of Hepokulta and Impivaara, there is a bat nest box in an old apple tree in the garden of Koivula's former farm. All houses are gone, only garden has survived. The area has a high cavity wall formed by loose stones in the terrain. A very potential place for bats to live. On 50's, a large treasure of money has been found in these piles of stones.

13 different species of bats have been found in Finland. Nine different ones have been found in the Turku region. Including the rare and highly endangered lash-wing, which is not regularly found anywhere else in Finland except in Turku. The most common bat species found in the area is the northern bat. Wikipedia (finnish) writes about this as follows:
"The northern bat (Eptesicus nilssonii), formerly the northern night bat, is the northernmost bat species in the world, which is also found north of the Arctic Circle. The northern bat is the most common bat species in Finland." Wikipedia: (visit link)

This bat nest box is made of wood and has a tin roof. The shape is very traditional, where the bat enters it by flying to the roughened bottom board, from where it climbs up into the bat house. The box expands upwards.

The manufacturer of this bat box is Jula from Sweden. According to the manufacturer, its dimensions are L19xH40xD15 cm. It has a picture of a bat painted on it. Jula: (visit link)

Bats are very helpful in fighting mosquitoes, for example. There are plenty of them in summer in this area as well, because several ditches run nearby and dense forests are right next door. To see actual bat, you will need night time and lot of luck as you get very dark nights on Finland during summer.
There is nearby very popular dog off-leash area, which might scare bats. Or give them opportunity to scare dogs!
