The red bricktower on Kanonkollen is a Sun Cannon. From May to August, a cannon is fired at 1 pm using the sun's rays. Directly to the south, there is an opening in the wall 20 cm wide and 300 cm high, which enables the entry of sun rays. The cannon has a mechanism that can be adjusted according to the different noon heights of the sun, so that the sun's rays can ignite the cannon and thereby fire a shot.
The tower, which was built in 1854, was part of the park for the Adelsnäs Manor. There were also other interesting buildings in the park, for example a pavilion, an orangery, a labyrinth and a gazebo.
Since the 1980s, the Solkanonklubben in Åtvidaberg has provided the tower and the firing of the solar cannon at 1pm.
The tower with the Sun Cannon has such great cultural and historical value that it was protected in 2022.
