La ville est située au nord de la Sardaigne dans la région des monts Limbara culminant sur son territoire à 1 359 mètres.
Tempio Pausania a pris de l'importance par rapport à Olbia quand l'ancienne capitale du judicat de la Gallura, alors appelée Civita est entrée en décadence.
C'est le centre culturel et administratif de la Gallura. Son centre historique présente une architecture typique de palais en granit dont la cathédrale San Pietro Apostolo ,consacrée en 1219 et restaurée dans le style baroque dans les années 1830.(Réf. Wikipedia).
Les mosaïques se situent sur la façade principale de l'église.

Tempio Pausania gained importance in relation to Olbia when the former capital of the judicat of Gallura, then called Civita, entered into decline.
It is the cultural and administrative center of Gallura. Its historic center presents a typical architecture of granite palaces including the San Pietro Apostolo Cathedral, consecrated in 1219 and restored in the Baroque style in the 1830s.(Ref. Wikipedia).
