Jazzgutten (The jazz boy) with his saxophone stands in the square with the fjord and the mountains as a background. An obvious sculpture in a city known for its annual Jazzfestival.
The sculpture was created by sculptor Nina Due and was a public gift for the city of Molde's 250th anniversary in 1992.

Molde was originally a place where wood and herring were shipped abroad. Gradually, the settlement grew larger and became the city of Molde.
Molde was granted full trading rights by King Christian VI, and became a market town on 29 June 1742.
Today, Molde is known for industry, tourism and the annual Jazz Festival. There are 32,446 (1 January 2023) inhabitants.
On 29 June 1992, the city celebrated its 250th anniversary.
