Molde is known for the many roses that grow in this particular climate. That is why Molde is also called "The City of Roses".

Molde lies facing the Romsdalsfjord with a magnificent view of over 200 mountain peaks.
Molde was the target of German bombing during the Second World War when the city functioned as the capital for a shorter period. This took a toll on the city, which was largely turned into a ruin. The buildings in Molde are therefore of recent date.
Molde is known for the annual Jazz Festival,the Bjørnson Festival and the many roses that thrive in this particular climate. That is why Molde is also called "The City of Roses".



1. The Cathedral. N 62° 44.307 E 007° 09.616
The old Cathedral in Molde was destroyed during the German bombardment in May 1940. It took a few years before a new one was built, and this new Cathedral was not inaugurated until 1957.
It is a two-nave church with the bell tower located next to it. There is room for 900 people in the church (visit link)


2. Rosenpiken N 62° 44.259 E 007° 09.531
Rosenpiken is a fountain and a sculpture. A girl stands in the middle of the fountain with a basket full of golden roses. A fine symbol for Molde as the City of Roses.
Rosenpiken was made by the artist Ragnhild Butenschön in 1971.


3. Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson N 62° 44.094 E 007° 09.286
In front of Alexandra Hotell is a bust of Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson who arwarded the Nobel Prize in Literature 1903. The bust is surrounded by roses
Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson born 1832 on Kvikne north of Tynset, died 1910 in Paris. In 1837, Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson went to school in Molde.
Bjørnson is known for his many plays and novels and his association with Molde is the reason for the annual Bjørnson Festival. (visit link)


4. Jazzgutten N 62° 44.223 E 007° 09.575
Jazzgutten (The jazz boy) with his saxophone stands in the square with the fjord and the mountains as a background. An obvious sculpture in a city known for its annual Jaxxfestival.
The sculpture was created by sculptor Nina Due and was a public gift for the city of Molde's 250th anniversary in 1992.


5. Mural Molderosen N 62° 44.261 E 007° 09.739
A mural depicting the Molde rose. "The Molderose is an annual award which, during Moldejazz, is awarded to a person who has contributed to putting Molde on the map. The winner undertakes to send a Christmas card to the head of tourism every year." (visit link) The award has taken place since 1967
