Not far from the Orienteering Course entrance at Irana Grove cul de sac on the west side of the Brickworks Park is a Historical Marker with the following information on the region of the Park.

"Wallsend Brickworks was established on the border of Jesmond and Wallsend in 1891. Surprisingly this was on the eve of the 1890's Depression that saw the building industry collapse which consequently had a major impact on brickmaking. Nationally, many Brickworks were forced to close however Wallsend was able to defy this trend. It operated 86 years, closing in March 1977."

There are twenty placed markers around the park that can be done as one of three 'LINE' courses, or as a 'scatter', or 'SCORE' course. I would think that the full zigzagging Line would be about 3km long. While mostly on open ground, there are many decisions to make on the Line course. You don't need me to tell you to track the minor and major contour lines and cliffs marked. And always be sure of what you are putting your foot onto next. A paper map can be picked up from Wallsend Library, or you can download MapRun6, and use the downloadable map.
