The original Romanesque church with Gothic elements, founded by the Johannites at the hospital, was handed over to the Piarist order in the 17th century. The Piarists added a dormitory to the church and in 1737 began construction of a new church designed by the bishop's architect Cyrani of Bolleshaus (+ 1758). The church was consecrated in 1768. The design was based on the plan of the Salesian Church in Renngasse, Vienna, the façade is based on Viennese and Prague models and above the entrance there is a sculpture of the Baptism of Christ with adoring angels (Olomouc sculptor Ondrej Zahner, 1752). The exquisite interior is the work of leading Moravian and Austrian artists (J. J. Etgens, J. Stern, F. I. Leicher, Michelangelo Unterberger, W. Träger, Jan and Michael Scharter, Pavel Ramelli, etc.). By using rococo and sentimental elements, the interior of one of the most beautiful churches of the 18th century in Moravia was appreciated.

Oldrich Zezula (1907-1980) painter, pedagogue, studied at the Academy in Prague with Prof. Blažícek, Loukota and Obrovský, in 1937 he made a study trip to France, was a professor of drawing in Turnov, Príbor and Kromeríž. He was a member of the Society of Visual Artists Hodonín and the Block of Visual Artists of the Moravian-Silesian Region. He is represented in the collections of the National Gallery Prague, KGVU Zlín, GVU Hodonín, the Museum of the Kromeríž Region in Kromeríž and elsewhere.
