Solar System Model - Jicíneves, Czech Republic - Solar System Models on Waymarking.com

In 2016, a model of the solar system was created as part of a project by elementary school in the small East Bohemian town of Jicíneves. The project was named PER ASPERA AD ASTRA - THROUGH OBSTACLES TO THE STARS.

The orbits range in diameter from 29 metres to two and a quarter kilometres and models of the planets can be seen on them. The smallest is the twenty-four-meter Mercury at the Jicín school, and the largest is the seventy-centimeter Jupiter. The scale of the model was calculated so that the orbits of the planets pass through the neighbouring villages from which the children attend the Jicíneves school.

At a scale of one in two billion, Neptune's orbits reach the villages of Chyjice, Staré Místo and Vitineves, Uranus' orbit passes through the village of Nemyceves, Saturn and Jupiter circle Jicíneves and Kostelec. Earth and our three nearest planetary neighbours are around the school in Jicíneves. This is the centre of the model, with the huge Sun shining on its facade.
